Kitchen remodeling

By ContractorsNow

Start with how you use the room, then decide what needs to move.

Keep the layout or change it?

Keeping the sink, range and major plumbing in place can simplify the scope. Moving them adds coordination between trades. Map the work triangle, storage needs and walking routes before choosing cabinets.

What to put in your scope

List cabinet construction, hardware, countertop material, backsplash, lighting, outlets, appliance dimensions and flooring. Ask who handles demolition, debris removal and protection of the rest of the home.

Compare more than the finish

Have each bidder describe what is included, what is an allowance and what requires a change order. Ask about cabinet lead times and when final measurements happen. A low allowance can make a bid look smaller without reducing the final cost.

Put the plan into a budget

Continue with Kitchen remodel cost: build a budget around your scope, then use the contractor bid comparison worksheet to align the proposals.
